How much more time will you need to get a new job?

This is a question I hear very often, but it is not so easy to answer. Even when you spend a lot of your time every day to find new job advertisements, prepare your application package and send it out to the potential new employer, the rest of the recruiting process is not in your hand. It is a lot of wait and see, how quickly they react and what their answer will be?

My outplacement company is supporting several thousand candidates every year and the overall average time to get them into a new position is 5.1 month, for guys above 50 the average is nearly 6 month. So I just started my 5th month and everything is still on track I would say. With respect to the number of applications to 1st interview ratio, you should be happy to get invited for an interview in 10% of the cases. So far I am above this number, looks fine either 🙂.

I did search in the Internet to find some statistical data in English, and what I did find is pretty much supporting the numbers from my outplacement company. Interesting to read and see, what is really going on during the recruiting process and after we did press the SEND button.
