Week fifty four summary and kicking off a new phase :-)
What did happen in the last week besides my final decision to be self-employed starting 01-Aug-17?
I did not apply for any new position , what a surprise, and got a final NO for four older applications. For another two the waiting period of 3 weeks was over, so I took them off my tracking list as well.
In summary I am at 172 applications in 54 weeks now. 77% have been rejected, 17 % moved to a headhunter's candidate pool and 6% (10 applications) are still work in progress. 18% of the applications did lead to a 1st interview, 5 % even to a 2nd one. Really good numbers when you talk to experts, but no measurable result in the end. A few times I was in the final round of candidates, sometimes even close to a contract proposal, but if you are a babyboomer a lot of companies are struggling.
Anyway and don't get me wrong here, I am not at all frustrated or demotivated about the numbers and situation above. I didn't want to miss the last 54 weeks, it was a great learning experience and this will all be useful input for my coming Advice and Coaching assignment!! I hope you like my 1st LOGO idea on the left, this version did pass the family feedback rounds so far. Maybe not perfect, but a good starting point I would say.
Late Friday I got the feedback call from the headhunter for the top level IT management position. He did propose three candidates to the hiring company, a younger and an older guy and myself. After a ten minutes introduction and explanation round per candidate the company representatives left for a 30 minutes offline discussion. In the end it has been decided that the other two will go to the next round. The headhunter had no real idea why, as no details had been shared. He gave me the "not so positive" message late Friday, but he did not want to spoil my weekend . I told him not to worry, as I had taken another decision for my future anyway already.
Out of the 10 work in progress applications one is the position with the final decision coming end of July and the other one the government position to be staffed by February 2018, with the first interview early August 2017. For the other 8 I do not really expect a lot anymore, as there has been no status update or reaction since the initial application confirmation email.
Tomorrow I will have a more detailed introduction round with my new business partner, to learn more details about their way of doing "right placement" of candidates and talents. Looking forward to this meeting. Before starting full speed on 01-Aug-17 I will take a short break with my family, a 6 day visit to Berlin (http://www.berlin.de/en/).
