The Phoenix Project simulation

I have been to a full day training today for the Phoenix Project simulation, a real life experience to learn something about DevOps. As my DevOps post from 16-Aug-18 is still getting a lot of attention, I just wanted to mention it today.

Some years back I did read the book that is written like a novel during a holiday already and really appreciated the smart way to get into the DevOps topic, see an excerpt at  https://itrevolution.com/wp-content/uploads/files/PhoenixProjectExcerpt.pdf

The simulation today was an even better way to learn, what is the key for success. Tear down the silo walls and start to work in cross functional teams, run several iterations to come closer to a smooth process flow and learn from mistakes every time. Basically we had to take different roles (e.g. CFO, HR, Business Development, IT Operations, Change Management, etc.) in a company that is struggling in the market place. In order to deliver the so called Phoenix turnaround Project, in parallel to other business projects and taking care of the daily business and unplanned tasks. During 4 rounds we had to increase the company's revenue and share price, improve activities in our workflow and deliver as much as possible tasks with the available capacity in the cross functional teams. A really great experience and good way to spend a day together with other IT people 🙂. Give it a try when you should get the opportunity.
