Small habits ...

This morning I did read an interview between Fortune and Hans Vestberg, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Verizon.

Hans mentioned two habits. In a new position or company he is always doing a "boss contract". A piece of paper that says, what he is going to do, just to be sure that there is no mismatch. For his CEO position with Verizon it covered three topics:

  1. What do we want to preserve?
  2. What are we going to strengthen?
  3. What do we want to transform?

His other habit is related to his personal time management. There are only six things a CEO should be doing, three external and three internal ones. Hans is doing a forecast of what percentage of time he should be doing each of them. Then he is measuring every hour he is working, to be sure he is spending the time on the most important things.

The external things are the ones only he can do as the Verizon CEO, the three internal ones are related to talent, strategy and governance. An interesting approach of a real role model.

"It's always great to have a purpose of a meeting and an ending for it, but it's even more important to be present and have an engagement on the topic you're doing, to create an environment and energy around that meeting, so everybody goes from there, 'That's great; we can take it forward!'"— Hans Vestberg, taken from his top 44 quotes
