My week 28-2022 summary

As mentioned back on 06-Jul-22 the UEFA Women's EURO 2022 soccer tournament is on until 31-Jul-22. Every bigger tournament brings up the same discussion, but to a larger audience - Equal Play for Equal Pay.

It is not a new discussion, as e.g. the Equal Pay Act is a labor law that prohibits gender-based wage discrimination in the United States (from 1963 🤔). But it takes time, see - US Soccer agrees to equal pay deal - just happened earlier in 2022 by the way. Other teams and sports are catching up, but there is still a long way to go, see a Salary Comparison from 2021.

The German women soccer team who did proceed to the quarter final this week is also an appreciated partner in interviews to cover this topic. Besides the pure payment there is much more to be covered or improved - much more professionalism in getting young players up to speed in good teams, dedicated medicine and physical therapy teams, more sponsoring and visibility on TV any Pay TV - just to name some examples.

"Not a lot of people are interested in women soccer, so there is less money to make and available for sponsoring" is a preferred argument, but just a "chicken and egg" case for me. A large audience is interested in the UEFA Women's EURO 2022 and the stadiums are full - show more to get more interest. In men sport there is a lot of investment in the future and clear strategies to create interest for new sport types, the same could be done for women 😎. Just do it ...
