About boredom ...

Picture provided by Teacher Goals with a quote from Victoria Prooday

What is boredom? "Boredom may occur when you feel energetic but have nowhere to direct your energy. It may also occur when you have difficulty focusing on a task. Boredom is a common complaint among children and adolescents. In some cases, they may also complain of boredom when they’re uncomfortable dealing with their thoughts or feelings."

Boredom was no real issue during my childhood, what is already some time over 🙃. We had no internet, mobile phones, laptops, online games, etc. - we just had been outside playing with friends or other kids on the street. The more offers and entertainment are available the more boring it gets for kids sometimes today. So less is more and you have to learn to withstand being bored once in a while. As parents be a good example and do not fight boredom with even more entertainment !! Do some really crazy stuff - propose reading a book, writing a story or painting a picture 🤩.

And it is not just a kids problem. In the work environment boreout is seen more often besides the already well known burnout syndrome. --> "While burnout is a result of stress and poor work/life balance—as well as the glorified culture of overwork—boreout occurs when we’re so bored and dissatisfied at work that it all just seems a bit pointless." So same story, do some really crazy stuff - read a book/article, write a story/journal or paint a picture/sketchnote ...

Or make use of content I mentioned this week already - use some emotional intelligence or learn from good examples.

"Since boredom advances and boredom is the root of all evil, no wonder, then, that the world goes backwards, that evil spreads. This can be traced back to the very beginning of the world. The gods were bored; therefore they created human beings." -- Soren Kierkegaard, Danish - Philosopher May 5, 1813 - November 11, 1855
